It's a lifestyle they choose. A friend of mine wrote her final year university dissertation on gypsy travellers. She came across a 9 year old boy who was being sent to school for the first time in his life and he'd never even SEEN a pen. There are extremely high levels of illiteracy among gypsies, who tend to answer to one central patriarch, who is often the only person able to read and write in their small society. In the UK they often live outside the laws that everyone else is expected to live by, but have been known to demand state education, healthcare and yes, even housing (or areas of land to live on). It is no secret that crime goes up when a group of Gypsies moves to the area. This breeds lots of ill-feeling between communities, particularly communities predominantly made up of law-abiding citizens who pay their taxes, yet are subjected to fines for putting the wrong type of rubbish in their recycling bins. It is important to watch what you say and to not pre-judge and discriminate, but get all the facts before you jump on anyone for saying a bad word or two about them.
both lily allen and beth ditto are completely right about katy perry. she's a vacuous airhead invented by music industry moguls to push a bunch of records to kids. they got the 'idea' for her from lily, they wanted an 'american lily allen'. she has no idea what she's talking about, it's so obvious, because she's been told by her management to keep schtum and not dig herself any deeper by exposing her own ignorance. she's arrogant, has very little talent and is not funny, i have no respect for you for licking her arse in this way. use some common sense and see her for what she is. if you like her as a friend you could just not talk shit about her, not say anything, instead of wrongly singing her praises. you lost to lily allen, and you know beth's right, so don't even fight it. katy perry IS offensive to the gay community, i've said this all along, she's exploiting homosexuality to look cool, just like madonna exploits ethnic minorities in her videos for the same end. pathetic really, that she has nothing more original to offer.
