Yes, this is a direct screen adaptation of the book Push, by Sapphire. The book is gritty as hell and absolutely brilliant. Read up before you see the movie, though it looks like a pretty respectable interpretation.

She does look like Demi, it is really just her jaw that is so tragic. In forward-facing shots, you can hold your hand up to cover up from the mouth down and the resemblance is much more obvious.

I'm not gonna lie, her makeup artist ought to be ashamed that her falsies aren't at her lash line, and you can't tell me that a visible gap is on purpose... I could have done better for $10 and a set of Ardells from CVS...
