I am from Louisiana. We have been affected by many hurricanes. Hurricane Rita and the recent Hurricane Ike has taken it's toll on our area. I sat and watched new coverage of people saying they were going to "hunker down" for the storm, even though they were under mandatory evacuation. This is stupid. I understand that it is your home, but don't you value your life more than a structure.
I agree with Adrianne 100%. If you don't leave during a mandatory evacuation you should be responsible for the cost of your rescue. Billions of people's tax dollars are paying for emergency services every single day. I'm sorry, if you are stupid enough to stay when a mandatory evacuation has been ordered and transportation, shelter, and other necessities are provided, I don't want to pay for your stupidity.
I have evacuate through 3 major hurricanes. They were all order by the parish I live in. The first one I evacuate for, I had no money. I stay in a shelter. Yeah, it was crappy. But it got me out of harms way. And I would do it again in a heartbeat. I value my life more than a dwelling. Call me crazy, but you can't enjoy a home if you aren't alive to live in it.
I appauled Adrianne for making her opinion known. She makes valid points and people should take that to heart.
I live in Southwest, Louisiana. We are evacuating in a few hours. I know that Hurricane Katrina was a nightmare. It was devastating to Louisiana and Mississippi. What I don't understand is how no one mentions Hurricane Rita. Hurricane Rita was devastating to the area I live in. We lost the roof on our house and our home was flooded. My brother lost his home. It was BAD here. But, no one EVER mentions it.
Good Luck to all my Fellow Louisianaians. Good luck to Missisippi. Be Safe!
