The reason Katie Holmes looks so bad is because Tom is bissexual. And like many bissexual or in the closet gays, Tom likes his woman to resemble a man as much as possible: therefore the short haircut (she lost the freshness of youth she had with her long tresses before she met him) and the emaciated and androgynous look. Many in the closet gay men like women who have an androgenous look: no hips and no breasts. Real men like curves.

Secondly, Tom is much older, and extremely worried about aging. He is trying to uglify her while losing weight himself so she does not look a lot younger than him. He is competitive and controlling and egotistical. Katie Holmes looks extremely unhappy in all her pictures, she has very sad eyes..she has that Stockholm syndrome look. She enjoys the spotlight, the mansions and the very high lifestyle though, which she would never have she was a just famous enough actress competing for roles.
