on Canadian Singer Killed By Coyotes! at 22:27 10/29/2009Ms. Mitchell's mother has made the following statement: "When the decision had been made to kill the pack of coyotes, I clearly heard Taylor's voice say, 'please don't, this is their space.' She wouldn't have wanted their demise, especially as a result of her own. She was passionate about animals, was an environmentalist and was also planning to volunteer at the Toronto Wildlife Centre in the coming months," Emily Mitchell said in a statement Thursday. "Tragically, it was her time to be taken from us so soon," the mother said.

on Canadian Singer Killed By Coyotes! at 22:19 10/29/2009I find it interesting all the people who say, "Oh, you should never hike alone." Being alone can be the point of a hike. I hike sometimes with groups and sometimes alone, it all depends, but I really value my solitary hikes (and I hike a lot in Nova Scotia; absolutely beautiful part of the world and one of my favourite places to go to clear my head). In terms of the iPod, she was a singer/songwriter, so the combination of music and the natural beauty of the place would have been a no-brainer for her. I think we can all judge the situation and say "coulda, shoulda, woulda", but none of us is promised tomorrow. My heart breaks for her mother and for all of us, who will never know what she would have done musically and otherwise. I feel certain she is at peace.

on Canadian Singer Killed By Coyotes! at 22:10 10/29/2009 as a reply on the comment by misiz_sjmxoYeah, no, nice try. The trail was in Cape Breton Highlands Park, a five- to six-hour drive from Halifax, the capital of Nova Scotia. And she was hiking alone, although there were lots of others on the trail. And her family wasn't with her; she was doing her first tour of the East Coast, promoting her CD.
