may i just say... YES. even though obama isn't in office yet, this is a major issue that should have been dealt with long ago. other countries have had an open policy on sexual preference for years and are doing just fine. yes, in the beginning there may be complete chaos, violence, and hell--but things will be worked through, the military will mature, and they will learn they are all equals. not every gay man is attracted to you, "billy," just like not most girls. soon, they will learn it and get over it. right now, men and women ready to up and serve are being dismissed when they are "found out" as being gay. they are serving proudly, found to be homosexual--and have their services, job, and career to live stripped from them. it's absurd and needs to be changed NOW.
To discriminate is unconstitutional, it's wrong. No matter what your opinion on same-sex relationships or people, the STATE has no right to define what is "right" and what is "wrong" when it comes to a personal life choice of marrying, loving, and sharing the financial ties, insurances, benefits, etc. with the ones you love. Keep church out of state! I am married and I chose a heterosexual relationship, and I am certain that same-sex marriages do not affect us in any way. Our children will learn about all lifestyles, choices--they will learn about LOVE and its many forms.
Marriage is wholesome, it's binding... it's something that brings integrity and security to a relationship. It builds a family and a special bond between them. Being able to say you are married when it is a heterosexual relationship OR a homosexual relationship carries the same meaning. "Civil Union?" Exactly as shown before, it's like having whites drink out of the nice, clean fountain, and the blacks be forced into using an unfortunate, dirty, unkempt sink solely for them due to the color of their skin.
I feel like crying, but hoping for some small miracle. With 89% of the precincts counted, I am... in awe. I voted NO on 8. When we moved to California, all we had heard was how liberal and open-minded it was. I am shocked, simply shocked that Prop 8 was voted "yes" by so many people. If the churches don't want it? Fine. If they don't want to recognize it? Fine. If you don't want to marry someone of your same sex? FINE. But why why why would you agree to a LAW that would deprive people of their personal rights? Every child dreams of getting married someday.
