I had a friend who just died from the same sort of carcinoma last month. He struggled with it for 15 months, even resorting to having to have his tongue and voicebox removed. :(
I liked it. I thought it was a good adaptation of the book. I think they left out one of the most critical scenes that sets up New Moon...the birthday party.
Jasper...what a mess. Rathbone was like a combo of Martin Short's face, Andy Dick's hair and the surprised face not too far removed from that of Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka. I have no idea if he is a good actor or not, the part just didn't allow for any acting.
The make-up and hair were horrible. I'm a commercial MUA and I am mortified that someone thought that work was up to par and suitable for a major theatrical release. Jasper's and Jacob's horrible extensions brought on MUCH laughter throughout the film.
The mood music was almost a deal breaker, it was like bad '80s, horror, B-movie music. Sooo bad...very distracting.
And the flashbacks and her dream were a total joke. I couldn't take it seriously. It was cheesy. I think they wasted an opportunity with the schmaltzy execution.
But even with moments that were hysterical and not meant to be...and lines that were beyond cheesy (as many are in the book)...I found the movie entertaining and that's what counts.
Good Lord, do we share a brain?
