I'm surprised at the amount of people who want to link smoking to being a bad role model. If someone smokes, that's their business. I would think more highly of someone who isn't trying to attention whore and smokes, than a person who doesn't smoke and constantly tries to get media attention. Just some food for thought.
Actually, Aaliyah was part of the R&B generation that came right before the breakout of Britney Spears and Destiny's Child. It was Aaliyah, Brandy, and Monica back then that shared the market. From there, the music scene exploded with new faces.
Trust me, she's just as conceited as she's perceived to be. I went to school with this girl, we both were at the same hairshop and I knew her parents. They were complete jerks. When she first broke out, I thought maybe she grew up to be a little better or something, but nope! As soon as two of the D.C. members quit, I knew why. It was her attitude! She is EXACTLY like her mother. I would really love for her to change--in fact, I'm rooting for it. And I have no problem with her music, I've sung to Single Ladies more than once. But every time she opens up her mouth and says another stupid thing, I get irritated with her again. Also, she was NOT upper class when she was younger, we both went to St. Mary's in Houston and it was in the middle of a ghetto. She was lying about that. Beyonce, come on girl. You can change. I commend your success, but enough with the ego. Why can't you be more like Kelli?

I would normally say that she should have worn something with a little more pizazz, but this day is about her husband, not her. With everyone wearing black or conservative colors, she probably doesn't want to upstage anyone.
