PLainJane82 - well said. Prop h8te wasn't about giving rights to gays...it was about TAKING AWAY their rights...AGAIN! Gays shouldn't care about a piece of paper or a church ceremony or the religious label "marriage". They should have every single benefit that a hetero couple has though, including tax breaks and insurance discounts. People say words don't matter...words shouldn't matter but they do...esp in legislation.
"We the people" spoke out against black/white marriages long ago. GLBT will one day celebrate their equal rights so long as they (and others) continue to make a stand for them.
According to Websters: civil 1 a: of or relating to citizens ...right 4: the cause of truth or justice... This IS a civil rights issue; One faction of society does not own that phrase. Gays are citizens and they are protesting injustice, as they see it, which is their 1st Amendment right. Just as the African-American community did in the past. Protesters brought awareness and now we hardly blink when seeing a biracial couple.
Let us stop hating...all of us. We are one...whether you'd like to admit it or not. As the old analogy goes...if you lost an eye, you could still function, albeit probably not as well as if you still had two.
P.S. my signs and I are ready to go! See you beautiful souls on Saturday! (Thank goodness LA & SF don't get all the fun this time!)
