Kate didn't have 6 embryos implanted (IVF). She was artificially inseminated (IUI), which gives the woman no control over how many embryos are fertilized.

Well either someone's lying or Jon planned on leaving Kate a long time ago...because why would he get a vasectomy right after the sextuplets were born if the whole reason Kate ended up with multiples is because she needed fertility treatments to conceive??? She didn't ovulate on her own!! So who was he worried about knocking up?
