Thank you Nana , Cat_Lady, etc for noticing Harry's poor choice of words. I hope he truly doesn't believe that it's through his efforts and not their own that black Americans do not look like baffoons.
I also hope the performers were unfamiliar with the history of the blackface portrayal of blacks.
I'm not sure why this turned into a discussion about how Australia is full of racism, Americans are geographically ignorant and self centered. Those kinds of generalizations only contribute to the lack of understanding between cultures.
Harry, I'm glad that you spoke out against such an offensive skit but I'd like you to know that you don't have the power to "make" me "look like a baffoon". Anyone's attempt to portray me in that way would merely speak about the kind of person they are. When I'm seen in a positive light it's because I'm worthy, not because anyone else made me look that way. Don't confuse changing the way people see me with changing the way I look.
FemaleFilmMajor - The world is full of young aspiring artists like you who think art must provoke controversy in order to be valid. Your simply sheep following a different shepherd. That's okay though. You're a kid and controversy is a pretty easy way to provoke. That's always the mantra of the up and coming generation. LOL As you mature though and broaden your horizons you'll discover that art can provoke feelings, emotions, moods, etc . . . some pleasant, some not. Your heart may always be in creating controversial art but hopefully you'll open your mind enough to respect those called to a different mission.
@ FemaleFilmMajor - It's also possible that simple minded morons who think music, movies, videos, only need be edgy, controversial or offensive in order to be relevent or praise-worthy just THINK that Taylor didn't deserve her award. If you can't fathom something being both pleasant and deserving of an award then you obviously aren't open minded enough to be in the film industry. You can work stricly on films that appeal to one segment of society but to dismiss what appeals to others as unworthy of industry recognition won't win you any friends in an industry that relies on connections.
I also hope the performers were unfamiliar with the history of the blackface portrayal of blacks.
