The reasons this relevant and the reason Perez and others should post these pictures is NOT because she answered a question in a particular way. She then took the situation, deliberately made herself a martyr over the cause, then decided to go on a tour of churches detailing her views that sexuality should be 'biblically correct', THEN went on the Today Show as well as becoming a political spokesperson for a political organization that is massively organizing to deny people their equality and rights. THAT'S WHY these photos are relevant...if she hadn't chosen to make herself a public spokesperson on biblical morality and Christian sexuality, then our interest in these pics would only be prurient. As it stands now, our interest now is political.
For all of you who think it's time for Perez to "shut up about this", why aren't you extending the same request to Prejean? She's chosen to go on the Today Show, she's chosen to keep giving interviews, she's chosen to talk at churches... It sounds like you only want one side of this issue to 'shut up'. And that sounds pretty typical. Once you stop following the cues from Fox and other right-wing boards to come over here and post every five seconds, maybe you'll take into account it doesn't matter how many times a bigot says "it's just my opinion" in front of a bigoted statement, it's still a bigoted statement that is attempting to push her 'religious' views onto a civilian populace. And your acceptance of that is frightening.
I've just got done defending you to quite a few people over the last couple of weeks, but this just feels like self-sabotage on your part...or discouraging superficiality. If you're post had at least had the courage to discuss what we can surmise is the real point of this article...that Christina is beautiful from the inside, that she's genuinely talented, that many people have to deal with issues of appearance when they have cancer...then we might have something real to debate. As it is, you've left it at...sour grapes about a crush of yours not getting one cover because it went to a cancer survivor? Really?
Isn't it interesting that so many of the people on hear who claim to be speaking FOR Martin Luther King Jr. are also the ones who claim to be speaking FOR Jesus as well as FOR the Founding Fathers and let's not forget the most important presumption, they're speaking FOR God! And all of this without any apparent serious biblical scholarship other than the tired "Adam and Steve" -level. They're conspicously ignoring the Coretta Scott King quotes posted earlier (oh that's right, SKAYE1971, Mrs. King MUST have not been speaking out of truth and knowledge of her husband there, because YOU know the truth!) As for all the African-American people on here taking umbrage with the use of the quote: Really? Civil rights only had something to do with you? I'm sure the Native Americans, Latinos, Asians, Physically-Challenged, Jewish, and yes, LGBT people who helped you out in that struggle are so glad to hear that it's now been decided only one group of people are allowed to claim discrimination, suffering, and the EXCLUSIVE use of INTERPRETING the words of non-violent, peaceful leaders. Oh, and that's right...can you show me again Jesus' words on the subject? Go ahead.
You're welcome. And I appreciated the perspective you displayed as well. The 'anonymous' hate on here would sicken me more if there weren't some enlightened perspectives occasionally on view. and I agree with nhoj...who wants to be playing a disturbing game called who's been discriminated against more. The amount of discrimination against LGBT can't be quantified...it's been going on for centuries, expressed in the most deadly and tortuous forms of violence (as we see evidenced in these comments), inflicted psychological wounds too numerous to count, and is even sanctioned by some people who have themselves experienced extreme discrimination. And if you're a gay person of color, you get both forms of hate. So why 'quantify' discrimination as a precursor to giving equal rights? That's a fool's game.
