The Big Three and many suppliers always shut down for at least 2 weeks around the holidays, and the past few years it has been for at least a month, so this always happens. I too have a friend that works at the Warren truck plant (just outside Detroit) and during shutdown they are payed unemployment and the United Autoworkers Union will also pay the workers to help make up the lost wages unemployment doesn't cover. Trust me I know, I work in transportation for GM and Ford in Detroit.

There is no "no partying" rule for players. Living in Green Bay, WI you always see players out on Saturday nights if the game isn't until Monday. Just a 24 or 48 rule of no partying before games.
