on VERY Potent Drug Found In Michael's Home! at 00:05 07/02/2009It is standard practice to administer lidocaine before bolusing propofol in the OR. Propofol DOES burn...profoundly, so does ketamine and even versed. Propofol infusions in the ICU may not hurt but the volume given for anesthesia inductions does hurt (10-20cc on average) . If he wanted "instant sleep" I'm guessing he would have used a sufficient volume of propofol to need the lidocaine preemptively. Propofol lasts about 10 minutes. It certainly doesn't belong in someone's home and it's not a controlled substance!
