Gays live in the same republic that I do. They have all the same "rights" that I do. Marriage is not a constitutional "right".
You do NOT get to marry a member of the same sex simply because you "love" them. If that was a constitutional right, if "love" was all marriage is about, I could marry my cat...after all, I love him too!
And what happens if you are bi ? Do you get to marry a man AND a woman?
If it were a constitutional right there would be NO argument against ANY kind of marriage. How do you argue that Mormon's shouldn't have many wives? Poligamy MUST become legal if gay marriage does. How would you dare stop it? On what grounds?
You are NOT oppressed. You are NOT second class citizens. You simply do not get to redefine an institution that's been the backbone of society throughout history and in every single culture across the globe.
AND...if I were black and heard you compare your "struggle" with that of slavery and the civil rights movement, I'd be pissed! No wonder they voted for Prop 8.
