your argument exemplifies the peripheral route thinking loved so much by republicans like yourself - you didn't actually make a relevant point but instead you spat superficial insults and told me i needed a doctorate "in REAL economics AND foriegn policy" (what are these real economics, by the way) yet you didn't show a shred of evidence to support that you have any clue as to what you're talking about.
ps - it doesnt take a doctorate to understand politics but merely a bit of logic and common sense
actually im bored and in class right now bt you're right - it is fun. especially because destroying arguments by people like you is like shooting fish in a barrel. i'd also like to comment on how you're rebuttle to my comment did nothing but insult me, and the insults were superficial at that. sounds like you're in need of the education mate
do you realize how many other countries have free healthcare and are doing very well economically? countries like the UK who's economy is a hell of a lot stronger than ours right now? and why, WHY would you continually make sacrifices if you didn't have to? Have you lost sight of the fact that our government is supposed to work for us, not the other way around. so of course healthcare should be free! everyone has the basic right to see a doctor when ill and especially in today's turbulent economy, just because you're a hard worker and make sacrifices doesn't necessarily mean you'll have that extra $50 a month for healthcare. clearly you're a nihilist or too right winged to realize that we shouldn't have to work our asses of for the essentials in life - aka healthcare.
however, I do agree that many of the people who read this site are not informed enough nor intelligent enough to become credibly informed to make an educated comment on anything political. I do think that Perez is doing some good by putting political issues on a site like this, perhaps the ignorant of our country will become less so by him doing this.
and you'd rather have another 4yrs of republican policies? obviously YOU need to do your research as the reason America is in a recession is due to all the billions of $$ we've spent on the war. a war that never should have been started in the first place. WMD? where were those again? oh yea, there weren't any but Bush had an agenda to finish cuz his dad got snubbed by Sadam.
and as for your attributing the recession to consumerism - i agree with you that americans are addicted to buying useless shit that just causes more waste and ultimately harms the planet. HOWEVER, clearly you need a lesson in econ as consumers spending money on all that useless shit is the only thing that will pull the economy out of the slump it's currently in. Obama giving these dreaded handouts you speak of will only foster this as people will be able to pay for their basic expenses and in turn have a larger expendible income to buy stuff. Perhaps you should be sure and research some credible sources before you run your mouth about topics you are clearly ignorant about.
For all of you stuck on the "experience" issue I'd like to point out that whether you're a Dubya supporter or not, there's no denying that he's fucked the country - especially in economic terms, and he's been in the white house for 8 years plus had a father who was president. Clearly this means experience doesn't amount to much.
Obviously McCain is a bible thumper appealing to people's peripheral modes of thinking, which is appropriate because studies have shown a correlatin between conservatism and religion. In turn, MENSA surveys have also shown a negative correlation between religion and education = the more religious a person is, the less intelligent they are.
This is going to be the biggest obstacle to surmount - the fact that republican supporters are just plain ignorant and McCain knows and is appealing to that very well (I cite the Paris Hilton ad as example - that ad required 0 intelligence to understand nor did it provoke any thought what so ever on relevant political issues).
Unfortunately, I do not know how to educate the unwilling. It truly saddens me to see how ignorant America has become.
