on Not So Much! at 12:13 09/18/2008Oh Ellevee...you don't get it. If you want to go tit for tat...try imagining coming from a lower middle class family (like myself). Both parent's working in decent jobs and together bringing in about $75K/year and trying to put two kids through college. Wanna know what financial aide officers said to them? Refinance your house. The modest house they spent years saving and sacrificing for. I worked almost full time while in college to pay part of my tuition. Now that wasn't easy with a full schedule of classes. You learn to sacrafice. A huge portion of this country doesn't know how to sacrafice, but I wont point fingers at who they are. Now I'm not crying for our situation because truth be told I found us to be a very fortunate family...there are others way worse off than we were. Thats why it doesn't irk me to give away such a huge portion of my check every week in taxes...some people need it more than me (and not because they are lazy and stupid). Thats not to say I hope for a day when the burden is less, but in the interim we have some huge problems to fix and the only way you can fix them is with more money. The American Dream isn't even in the reach of most of the population and wont be for some time.

on Not So Much! at 12:00 09/18/2008 as a reply on the comment by Jenny2I really can't believe the comments from some of you who are so disconnected from reality and honestly believe those in low income brackets are all there because of bad choices and laziness. Its so absurd. I just can't even fathom that train of thought. Its my hope that you're just young or maybe uneducated and fell into money or something because otherwise you comments are just dumb. Its been my experience that those who fought their way to the top never forget the others below them that DIDN'T have the same opportunities or resources. I wish I could remember the exact figures, but if you've ever taken a sociology class you'd know that it is EXTREMELY difficult in our country to move up from the social class you're born into...unless of course you're born into a family of wealth in which case its entirely possible to make a living off investments and trusts and social connections. Get a clue.

on Not So Much! at 11:30 09/18/2008 as a reply on the comment by vicferrWow...you are sorely misinformed. Granted I'm a DEM, but come on, you're really going to generalize like that and say that those who fall in the middle-to-poor income brackets are all lazy and jobless? REALLY REALLY ignorant. I'm all for debate, but taking that stance makes for an un-realistic discussion.

on Not So Much! at 11:15 09/18/2008I get what you're saying Perez, but the underlying fact is that large corporations are headed by some of the countries wealthiest americans that get enourmous tax breaks. A big argument for them is that if taxes are raised they'll take their business to other countries (as many already do). That IS unpatriotic and adds to an even larger unemployment rate. Lets pay it forward and take care of our own. The wealthy have had it REALLY good for a REALLY long time now. We should all be in this together...that seems patriotic to me.

on Sex For The Disney City? at 09:05 09/18/2008I've been over Sex and The City for a while now, but I definitely can't imagine Carrie as a leader in high school.
