no - these were hardworking people who could not make their house payments, or buy xmas presents for the kids during christmas because they were unpaid for months. I bet his kids didn't go without for the holidays - but many other families did. If the language and attitudes that have been displayed here are typical of the type of person that would flood to this valley, if the property was commercially developed, then you have displayed for yourself why the citizens of this town do not want such a development in the valley. I am not the only one that feels this way, the majority of our township feels this way. This is our town, we pay the taxes here and we do have the right to oppose anything that would radically change the charm and atmosphere that we cherish.
once again, this is not about snobbery or race. It is about over-development, traffic and crowds that cannot be handled here. this is not memphis and simply cannot handle it the influx of crowds and constant unrelenting traffic. btw, Michael was not all that good a neighbor either. he left tons of bills in the valley, businesses unpaid for services and working employees unpaid for months. workers that lived paycheck to paycheck and then were left without jobs. all the while he was shown on tv spending millions on shopping sprees. there two sides (or more) to everything. he was talented yes, but not a great neighbor and obviously a very troubled human being with lots of issues. when our state is in economic crisis, why should we pay for extra services such as road maintanence, police and the like. why should LA have to pay 4 million+ for what it cost for the funeral??? let the estate pay for it.
I just read these stupidly unintelligent comment posts. This is not a racial thing at all, it is about not being able to handle that type of traffic or crowds that would be here. there is only a 2 lane highway, and a single road through town leading to the ranch. there is only 1 very expensive hotel and two small restaurants. btw, most of the people in town lived here long before he bought the ranch - so he moved his circus into our quiet community and distrubed the peace. We were glad when he left - and he should stay gone for good.
I am one of the Los Olivos neighbors who so object to any proposed development of the ranch into another Graceland. This should not happen to our bucolic little town. We moved up here to get away from the crowds, congestion and crime of cities. The past few weeks has brought the sleaziest of freak fans and media to town. We do not have the roads, businesses or room to facilitate such a project and accomodate the crowds. It would destroy my lovely little country town - Jackson is not worth it!
GET A LIFE!!! you won't find a hotel room in town now for under $300. How can it be worth it to come all the way out here and be part of the masses. please stay home and save your money.
