As a parent, I think what he's doing is perfectly normal. Those are babies--they don't understand. He's not lying and telling them that mommy loves daddy--just that mommy's not here because she's at work. Just fine until they are older and start asking questions. Then he can give them more info.
She's a singer--her voice needs a good nights sleep and needs to warm up before performing. She can't just roll out of bed and be ready to belt out the tunes.
