A panel of gay women came to my Women's Health class today to talk about their lives as members of the gay community.
When it became time to ask the panel questions, I asked "When public figures such as Miss California say gay marriage is illegitimate, do you find that as a source of oppression among the gay community?"
The women answered "YES! With every revolution, there will always be people who knock others down. This is another instance where the gay community was knocked down. However, this time, we will rise up higher!"
I am not gay, but I believe that everyone has their own right to love whoever they choose - a man, women, a rock, etc.
This country is based on separation of church and state, however, the religious beliefs of the people are deterring us from moving forward.
Miss California has the right of speech and to believe in whatever she so chooses, however, she is an oppressor of the gay community.
