I also sometimes wonder about people using mental illness as a way to appear interesting (like in Megan Fox's case). But look at it this way. Would you say the same thing about a celebrity who is commended for their bravery to come out and say they have cancer. People need to know that the incidence of any mental illness is SO incredibly high but we are ignorant to this fact since we are so consumed with appearing normal. I too struggle with OCD personality and it sometimes creates such anxiety that I can't enjoy simple things. We have become a society so quick to judge anyone who's behavior is out of order without thinking about why the behavior could be that way. I have a brother who has been in a state mental hospital since February and I hope no one ever has to experience what my family has been through. Please educate yourselves when it comes to mental illness or else you will be guided by the ignorance and fear which the media is so saturated with.
One last thing. Perez is so two faced. He preaches about equal rights with gays/lesbians (which I agree with). But he is first to discriminate against ALL of those with mental illness. I can't wait to finish my documentary so that we can start to end the stigma against mental illness.
I am glad that celebs are speaking out on these less severe mental disorders. One in four adults will experience a mental illness at some point in their lives. Problem is our society is obsessed with NORMAL. Sorry people, no one is perfect. Bravo to anyone who is courageous enough to speak about these very common mental illnesses. We need to make these topics mundane so that we can stop ignorance and insensitivity. www.gaining-insight.com
My final statement to all who still think this human should be sterilized for having an illness....THIS IS NOT A BLACK AND WHITE SITUATION...look at all the facts before you are so quick to judge. Hitler sterilized human beings for the same reasons. And, he thought that by the skillful use of propaganda (in this case the media), one can make others see living hell as paradise and vise versa. I hope none of you ever have to experience a close loved one endure such a horrible mental illness.
And yes, I think she should be allowed to be freed after a certain time. Her crime was not a crime of choice. She deserves the right to treatment. In her case, she should be forced to take medicine injections for the rest of her life. Recovery is possible, it's just that most do not take it, and for many reason!
