on Madonna Returns To London Absolutely Devastated, Greeted By Guy at 22:54 04/06/2009 as a reply on the comment by LeeCeehello??? One of Jolie's kids (Maddox) has a living grandmother who has publicly commented on his adoption. He probably has other living relatives. An orphan is not just a baby who has NO ONE...an orphan is a child who doesn't have anyone that will and can provide financially and emotionally. There are countless orphans who's parents literally dropped them off at the orphanage, ones who's parents are dead but they have grandparents who cannot take them in. You are talking about countries where people have no running water, food and barely survive themselves. A child who has been living in an orphanage for years is an ORPHAN period...regardless of if his/her parents are alive.

That no one is going to live in Malawi (or any of those African countries that you point to) for 18 months to adopt a baby. They will go to Russia, South America, Vietnam, China...places where governments will put these babies' which are now numbering in the millions (due to AIDS) needs first. These kids NEED to be adopted, they need to be raised in families. Why do other countries have successful adoption...and Malawi cannot. The times are changing. More and more people are dying over there and more babies orphaned. Maybe there is a middle ground...but these governments are making it so that no legit person can actually adopt from there. that is what I am trying to say. Madonna may never get this baby but at least she is bringing attention to the fact that these kids are stuck there.

on Madonna Returns To London Absolutely Devastated, Greeted By Guy at 15:22 04/06/2009I think the point here is that Malawi laws need to change or they will never have children adopted from their orphanages. No other country (that allows adoption) requires a person to live there for 18 months. They do background checks and home studies and thousands of kids get adopted from various countries to great parents and good homes. It's not feasible for anyone to live in Malawi for 18 months and thus the government is literally pushing away anyone who might potentially want to adopt from there. Madonna is a renegade and clearly she is bringing attention to this now. It's not about special treatment, its about their laws and anyone who thinks this little girl is better off in an orphanage in Africa than with Madonna is nuts.
