on Going Back For More Babies? at 13:33 08/13/2008It's actually quite common in areas of africa for children to live the first 5 years of their life in an orphange and then return to the family. Families usually send their children to orphanges at birth because they can't afford to feed them and if a child suffers poor nutrition for the first 5 yrs of their life they have a lower rate of survival later on. Once the child is older the families are rejoined since (usually) the family wants their child back and children are important for family survival.
