Just goes to show that Arnold really has NO CLUE what he is talking about. Polanski isn't being backed because he is a good director. He is being backed because he DID HIS TIME!!! Yes he had sex with a minor but she told him she was 18 and if you had seen the pictures of her she looked it!! The "victim" has even said she wants Polanski freed. There is even more to the story that show Polanski should be freed. And anyone with any form of conscience would agree....but THAT is why people are backing him. Not because of his job.
He IS french born. His parents were both Polish ("poland-born" if you please). Polanski was born in FRANCE!! His parents moved him back to Poland (where THEY are from) when he was little. Then the Holocaust happened. He escaped the Ghetto, his mom died at Aushwitz and his dad survived at some other concentration camp (I don't remember which). The point is he WAS born in France and considers himself a "french-pole". Because he is, both french and polish.
They may have both died there, I'm not sure. I'll take your word on that one. I only read his mother did (maybe he wasn't close to his father so he never mentions him). I also just read that he escaped the ghetto (didn't say how) so what you say about his parents giving him away makes sense as well. It's still a form of escape from the ghetto.
