I work for the Red Cross as well and was just about to write a similar post. Thank you for enlightening the general public. So many individuals out there have NO idea how donor dollars work.
You are WRONG!!! The Red Cross did not "sit" on aid for Myanmar. The Red Cross was one of the FIRST organizations to try and get into Myanmar, in fact the organization INSISTED ON GIVING AID and was DENIED access by the Myanmar government for several days. The aid that was not given was not because the Red Cross chose not to give it but because the Myanmar government chose not to accept it.
I will also add for your readers and commenter's that: the Red Cross does indeed provide for other countries. The organization is called The International Red Cross and Red crescent Society.
I happen to work for my local chapter of the American Red Cross. i read your blog all of the time. I rarely read the comments because of all the snark. (talk about people on high horses) Anyway Perez, I would like to say thank you for posting a link for donations to the Red Cross. the Red Cross National Disaster Fund is dire need of contributions. Much of the free assistance that is given after a disaster comes from the American Red Cross. Again, thank you.
