Yup...that was my point. Neither one of my kids were breastfed for the recommended time that Dr's seem to say and they are super healthy. 19 months...that is awesome to still not have gotten a cold! You're lucky:) you feel so terrible when they are miserable and all stuffed up. No fun at all.
I think it should be up to the mother and child when to stop really. Dr's say that if you are going to do that, it's good to try to reach a 6 month mark. It helps to boost their immune system. I have two children and I tried to do breastfeeding for both. I made it to 5 months with my son before we found out he had an allergy to a protein I produced in my milk no matter what my diet was (I was down to eating bread and drinking water). My daughter was only a few weeks old when I stopped because she began to display similar symptoms as my son had. We at least knew to stop sooner. Both were put on a special soy fomula and were and are healthy as can be. My son didn't even get his first cold until he was 13 months old! And believe me, he was certainly exposed to enough germs. I did not really find breastfeeding addicting. In fact, I found bottles to be much easier. Whether it was with pumped milk or formula. It just worked with my schedule better. I am not one who can stop to sit down for 45 minutes and just sit there.
Actually Joe vs. volcano was a movie about a guy who's life sucked and he was diagnosed with some terminal disease or something. He was the one who was going to throw himself into the volcano. This was too long ago...like late 80's early 90's. I'm going to check this out on IMDB. I remember that it did suck though.
continued... I currently own a home in a different state that has been on the market for a year. (We moved due to a job transfer and have to rent until our home sells-not a good situation in today's economy, but we are getting by). We have a standard 30yr-fixed rate 20% down good old fashioned loan that we got in the peak of the sub-prime mortgage time. We were tempted by many of the greedy mortgage companies to get one of these. We were told that we could afford something twice as much as we had thought we could. We were told we didn't need anything down...but luckily, we were able to read and understand all of the fine print. Being a teacher of adult English language learners who many times make up a large portion of the low-moderate income neighborhoods, I have heard so many stories about who they were not being told things, told to trust that person (loan originator), and that they would be fine. It's sad what greed can do. Sad, Sad, Sad!!
