guys, Domestic partnership (or what i guess you're calling "Civil Unions") does NOT provide the same benefits as Marriage... it actually provides over one thousand fewer rights than marriage. It provides NO federal benefits either....and (more for a trivia fact), you would HAVE to testify against your "spouse" in a court of law (unlike "married" couples who are protected)...do the research, it's really not equal. Thanks
the reason why there is a protest outside the cathedral is because CARDINAL Roger Mahoney urged and then thanked Catholics for voting Yes on 8 (see below). Clearly in violation of separation of Church and State. The Church does not have ownership of the word Marriage. Non-believers and criminals can get "married". Gay people want to have the same rights outside the confines of the Church's rules. FROM CARDINAL MAHONEY...WWW.LA-ARCHDIOCESE.COM I am grateful to the Catholic Community of Los Angeles for your commitment to the institution of marriage as fashioned by God and to work with such energy to enshrine this divine plan into our State’s Constitution.
The passage of Proposition 8 was the result of an unprecedented coalition of many Faith Communities and other citizens who understood the importance of maintaining the bedrock institution of marriage as has been lived out since recorded history.
