I work in Desi Radio. A few years back Fashion Cares in Toronto (I know ya love us here Perez - and we love ya right back) The theme was Bollywood - How cool is that eh? The PERFECT homoerotic aesthetic! Beautiful boys, flowing locks - the whole shebang. Well turns out no quite so groovy. They created decks of playing cards with the images of Hindu Gods and Goddesses on the front, which were given at the door as a cool promo. End result - images of sacred Gods were strewn about, trampled on ... you get the picture. All of that happened because the organizers thought the sacred images were cool and kitschy. Chalk it our to good ol colonial superiority and ignorance. They could have used cool images of Bollywood stars and brought those images to a new audience. Instead the people at Faison Cares had a mountain of PR to climb - people protested - Fashion Cares eventually said sorry. Same deal here
