of course all thoes ski area are where the tourists travel, mostly Texans, If you want to better ski area not to far away is Wolf Creek in Pagosa Springs, CO.

taos is a ski town. it is located on the enchanted circle highway. There are three ski resorts on this highway as well as a cross country ski area. Surrounded by national forests and tiny ski towns like Angle Fire and Red River. They call it the enchanted circle because the whole area is encompassed with mountains! It's really beautiful out there and you are really missing something. It can get really cold and can snow a lot so watch out. But, if you don't like hippies at all I wouldn't recommend it at all. I believe she lives in the nearby town of Arroyo Seco, it is closer to the ski area but not in the heart of town. She was probably visiting Taos Pizza Outback, they have the best basil pesto salad dressing and amazing pizza.
