We get paid maternal leave so that women can have the freedom of choosing motherhood without losing their careers.I guess the Europeans and the Americans have different approaches trying to reach individual freedom. In Europe we believe in the individual working for the community, so that the community can work for the individual, and in America you believe in individual working for individual.
