I agree with the person above, watch The Wind That Shakes the Barley. It is an amazing film and will help you understand how the IRA used to be and how persecuted the Irish were. By the way, the IRA are not called the IRA anymore. they are now the Real Irish Republican Army ( RIRA ). On the flip side, watch the movie Omagh, about the bombing by the RIRA in the Northern Irish town Omagh where 29 people died in 1998 including a woman pregnant with twins. It will show what the IRA became.
The conflict between Ireland and Britain is very complicated and has been going on for hundreds of years. Whatever your beliefs, I don't think that you can comment on the situation until you know all the facts which most North Americans do not. The IRA is a terrorist organization now that has committed many atrocities. They have no support from the Irish people. During the War of Independence in 1922, they were a completely different organization that people were proud to be a part of because they were fighting to win back their country from hundreds of years of English rule. The amazing thing is, the Republic of Ireland and N. Ireland have been able to put the troubles in the past and move on. Rose McGowan should have carefully thought about her comments and specified which period of time she sympathized with the IRA.
