No man or woman of age is excluded from getting married with each other. Changing the definition of marriage and then yelling, "INEQUALITY" is backwards and not logical at all. It is like me changing the definition of a an adult to be at age 16. Then accuse inequality for all the 16 year olds out there. There are other countries in the world who adults are 16 years old, allow polygamy, arranged marriages, etc. This proposition will open the flood gates to not-so-well thought out issue. What about the rights of someone wanting to marry multiple partners? Their sister or cousin? Their dog? Their underage girlfriend or boyfriend? When and where does it stop?
I understand that things change over the years. However, we cannot not equate MARRIAGE to the transition in social verbal communication; like "personal computer" to "PC" or "automobile" to "car" and so on. Not even homosexual tolerant Greco-Roman society would change the normative definition of marriage between a man and woman. If its not our "right" to claim marriage is between man and a woman... then what gives the gay community the "right" to change it? Again, I am not anti-gay... I am all for them being with who they love and choose. Would changing the definition of marriage really make or break their relationship?
Then why is their a definition set in stone for you being a girl? Are we going to generalize everything and make everyone choose what status they want to be? If I am a hispanic girl in southern california. Under the "No on Prop 8" arguement, it is my right to choose to be an asian boy in florida. Who has the right to tell me what the definition is?
The logic in the "no on prop 8" is flawed. Thus, I do not agree with it. I am not anti-gay or against homosexuals. I have friends, relatives, and clients that are gay. They all know my view and are fine with it. My gay brother knows that I will not stop him having a long lasting civil union with his partner. But when it comes to changing definitions. What will prevent more definition of our society from changing? Why cant a man marry multiple wives? Why cant a 28 years old marry a 15 year old? If those become socially accepted in the future, will we change it again?
I am not ANTI GAY I have gay friends, relatives, clients, and I never have been against them being together. In fact, civil unions were created to accommodate this. Civil Unions have all of the entire same benefits, privileges, and rights and a traditional marriage. I do not understand the logical purpose of changing the DEFINITION of marriage. Why does it need to change? At what point are we going to stop changing the definition? What will stop those who want to marry multiple partners? What will stop those who want to marry their first cousin? What will prevent those who want to marry someone underage? The big question is what is wrong with civil unions?
Well, I am sorry but you cared about my life so much that you had to detail it in a false way and I had to correct you. Also, I DO live in California and will vote YES on Prop 8 because I have still yet to have heard a mature, reasonable, rational, and logical explanation.
